They

I started this in a reply to Brother Steve's post, and it began to run on into a full fledged post. So, here goes...

WWJD, WWYD. What would you do? What should you do? What would 'they' do? Easy questions, Brother Steve posed them in his previous post and gave a great example of us living our best in church and our worst in the days between. Mark Hall of Casting Crowns wrote a song called 'The Altar and the Door' on their latest album that references this very thing. We can pour our hearts out to God on the way to the altar, but between the altar and the door, our convictions are gone. He puts it like this:

As I cry
Like so many times before
But my eyes
Are dry before I leave the floor
Oh Lord, I try
But this time, Jesus, how can I be sure
I will not lose my follow-through
Between the altar and the door?

So, what makes us one person in church and another in school...work...the grocery store...So many times we feel that it isn't up to us to take on that responsibility of being the nice guy, or girl. We always lay it off on someone else. Ah, she dropped all of her books, 'they' will help her. He doesn't look happy, well 'they' will console him. He looks hungry...'they' will give him food.

Are we afraid of what people will think of us if we are seen talking to 'that person'? I don't know what people think...they think they will be rebels if they don't do the nice thing. They will be perceived as 'tough', 'bad', 'cool', or what ever the word is now days for 'fly'...maybe its 'phat'. I have some news for you. Everybody is trying to be that person. Do you want to stand out in the crowd? Do you want to be different? Why not follow the most righteous rebel of them all? Yeah, you know...Jesus. Seriously. Stand out. Stand up. Be a rebel. Be THEY. BE THE REVOLUTION.

Winners & Losers

We all know what Jesus would do....the question is, what would you do? I recently read the following fictitious story and thought it would make for good "blogging" material. Students and parents are encouraged to participate.....who knows there might be something in it for the best response....HA! How's that for bribery? Anyhoo......blog away!!!!!!

Here goes...

Bobby knew the reason that no one ever talked to him - he was a loser. He had never been exceptional in sports, his weight had always been a problem and his acne made him look like he had a case of the chicken pox. Jimmy, one of the most popular guys at school, would talk to Bobby at church on Sunday, but then Monday morning, it was as if Bobby did not exist. When Bobby and Jimmy passed in the halls, Bobby was ignored - especially when Jimmy was with his friends. Jimmy says it is tough being friends with Bobby at school because a person can't be a winner if he talks to losers. Jimmy thinks popularity is important and won't risk being friends with Bobby and that he will lose his popularity if he talks to Bobby.

...ok....so you know what Jesus would do and maybe you know what you SHOULD do. But the question is "what WOULD you do?" I anxiously await your blogging insights!

Daybreak

Hey this is Mr. D. In January Highland started something new in the morning and called it Daybreak. We decided that everyone 13 and up should have a place to go and hold devotionals, listen to music, have discussions play games, and just talk for the half hour from 8 to 8:30. So with Bro. Steve's blessing, I began opening our church's sanctuary, or chapel as it is for the school, at 8 am and playing some Christian music and holding a short devotional.

I am pleased to announce that Daybreak has been pretty great over the past few months. We average around 20 students and have had some great discussion and fun games. We have a skit planned for Spring Fling on April 29th and lots of fun stuff in between, so stay tuned. I hope to have some video up on God Tube soon, so stay tuned.

In Christ,

Mr. D

Area Championship

Just wanted to give a BIG shout out to our Lady Warriors for great season. Once again they made it to the Area playoff game....and once again they had to play Brazos Christian.....unfortunately, once again, they fell 2 games shy of the State Tournament.

After a convincing victory in Sugarland, the battered Lady Warriors made the 5 hour journey to College Station to play the Lady Eagles of Bryan, Brazos Christian School. After staying close for the first 3 quarters, the Lady Eagles pulled away winning by a score of 52 - 31.

To say that the year has been a challenge for these young ladies would be an understatement. However, with heart felt determination, they stayed the course, worked hard, and made what could have been a season of defeat, turn into a season of great personal & team successes. What speaks most of this team is their character and attitude. Gracious in victory and poised even in defeat!
That's hard to find in sports these days - you've all earn my respect!

Bi-District Boys Basketball

As you know, the boys were defeated in Houston last Friday night by the Eagles of Texas Christian School. It was a hard fought game and your Warriors hung in for the first two quarters. Unfortunately, our opponents were too much in the end and we lost 94 to 69. It was a great learning experience for us all!

I was most pleased by the fact that we never quit. From start to finish, we played with our whole hearts, and for that, I am very proud of our young men. I had a coach tell me once that you can probably learn more from a loss than you can from a win. While that might be true, it is hard to know or measure the lessons learned from a loss until you are far enough removed from it to see clearly. My hope is that these young men will leave my team with the "stuff" they will need to succeed in life. By the looks of how they handled themselves on the court Friday night, and immediately after the game, they are well on their way! In spite of the loss, the character they demonstrated after the game is what makes me most proud. Apparently, Warrior pride is alive and well!
